Between land and water

Swimrun combines running and swimming without transitions. Discover Orca's wetsuits designed to maximise mobility, buoyancy and comfort.

Swimrun is a discipline that brings the boundaries of land and water together - an adventure that combines trail running and open water swimming without fixed transitions but with a single rule: take all your equipment with you all the way from start to finish. The sport’s origin dates back to Sweden’s Ötillö, where a group of friends began to map out the route on a paper placemat at a restaurant - a route that they would later run and swim depending on the terrain they would encounter along the archipelago. What started out as a bet between friends ended up becoming a sport that would, over time, gain worldwide recognition. Swimrun doesn’t belong to a specific federation, nor is it governed by strict regulations; Swimrun has grown out of the spirit of freedom, adventure and resistance, and appeals to both triathletes and open water swimmers as well as mountain runners seeking new challenges.

Unlike other endurance sports where discipline changes involve stops and transition zones, there are no pauses in Swimrun. You swim with your running shoes on and you run with your wetsuit on, as well as any other additional equipment. This adds an extra level of difficulty to each team’s strategy. In order to meet these requirements, choosing your equipment is key, and your wetsuit becomes one of the most important elements. It should not only offer you thermal insulation and buoyancy in the water, but flexibility and comfort when on foot, allowing you to move freely over mixed terrain.

A swimrun wetsuit should strike a balance between buoyancy, flexibility and resistance in order to help you transition between swimming and running. Its design will combine panels of different thicknesses, with greater flexibility in the legs to improve your position in the water and less flexibility in the torso and arms so as not to limit your movements when running. It should include flexible materials in the shoulders and inner thighs, a front zipper for better ventilation and greater comfort, and integrated pockets for your accessories. Plus, its construction should be lightweight and reinforced in areas prone to friction to increase durability. Some models allow certain adjustments, such as neoprene arm sleeves, ensuring versatility to adapt to each athlete’s needs.

We have three wetsuit models available in our Swimrun range and we prioritise different features in each one in order to offer something for each individual athlete’s needs.

The Aesir Flex is the most elastic wetsuit. It incorporates a vest construction in order to enhance performance when both running and swimming. Plus, its use of 40+ technology offers greater flexibility, without affecting durability, thanks to its outer fabric on the legs. It includes a front zipper and arm sleeves, as well as side zip pockets.

The Aesir Thermal is the wetsuit that offers greatest thermal comfort. It incorporates the lightweight thermal inner lining Thermal Light for increased heat retention and it includes a front zip construction and arm sleeves for greater running and swimming comfort. It also incorporates 40+ technology, which guarantees a good degree of elasticity without affecting the suit’s durability.

The Vanir Flex is the most comfortable wetsuit in our entire range. It incorporates highly elastic materials and a front zip construction for greater comfort when running and swimming in open water.

As well as choosing your wetsuit, a good choice of accessories is key in Swimrun. Swim paddles improve propulsion and should suit our technical level: they should be more ergonomic for beginners and larger and flatter for experienced swimmers. The Swimrun pull buoy, essential to compensate for the resistance created by swimming with shoes on, includes an elastic band to attach it to your thigh in order to ease your transition to running.

How to measure yourself

For best results, take your measurements with no clothing on

Place the measuring tape over the widest part of your chest.

Hold one end of the measuring tape in place and circle your chest, keeping the tape straight, until the tape reaches your starting point.

Get a book, a hand mirror and a pencil.

Take off your shoes and anything you wear on your head.

Look for a level surface to stand on with a smooth wall behind you.

Stand in front of the wall with your feet together.

Balance the book on your head and press it against the wall. Use the mirror to check that it is in a horizontal position and well centered. Mark the position of the top of your head on the wall with pencil.

Once the mark is made, step away and use a measuring tape to measure the distance from the ground to the mark you just made with pencil.

Step on the scale, without clothes or accessories, and write down your weight.
