How to care for and store your equipment

Extend the life of your wetsuit by following these tips and continue enjoying it as if it were brand new

If you’re the type of person to leave your wet swimsuit at the bottom of your backpack, forgotten until the next day of training, or raise an eye at neoprene care talk, then these swimming gear tips are for you.

To guarantee longer durability and enjoyment of your gear as if it were brand new, you must take care of it. And it all starts with cleaning it after every swim.

Neoprene wetsuits, swimsuits and goggles can be damaged by sea salt or swimming pool chemicals. For this reason, we recommend washing your equipment with plenty of water after each use. You can also use a small amount of Ph-neutral soap and rinse it clean after.

Let your gear dry outside or in a ventilated indoor space if the weather is uncooperative. In the case of neoprene, we recommend turning your wetsuit inside out, hanging it by the waist and avoiding direct sun exposure, as it can compromise the materials.

Store your swimming goggles in their own cloth bag to prevent the lenses from getting scratched.

Before storing your neoprene, check that the Velcro does not come in contact with the inside of the suit, as this can damage the fabric. Keep the Velcro covered with the fabric provided or alternatively close the Velcro. This will prevent the interior from getting damaged.

To store your wetsuit or swimsuit correctly and prevent the materials and seams from wrinkling or stretching, we recommend hanging it on a hanger from the waist. This way, delicate areas like the shoulders and arms will not hang under tension and you’ll avoid the deterioration of the elastic.

Another option is to fold your suit following the steps shown in the video below.

If you plan to store your neoprene for a long period of time, you can also add a small layer of talcum powder to protect the material.

How to measure yourself

For best results, take your measurements with no clothing on

Place the measuring tape over the widest part of your chest.

Hold one end of the measuring tape in place and circle your chest, keeping the tape straight, until the tape reaches your starting point.

Get a book, a hand mirror and a pencil.

Take off your shoes and anything you wear on your head.

Look for a level surface to stand on with a smooth wall behind you.

Stand in front of the wall with your feet together.

Balance the book on your head and press it against the wall. Use the mirror to check that it is in a horizontal position and well centered. Mark the position of the top of your head on the wall with pencil.

Once the mark is made, step away and use a measuring tape to measure the distance from the ground to the mark you just made with pencil.

Step on the scale, without clothes or accessories, and write down your weight.
