World Oceans Day

On June 8th, we're celebrating World Oceans Day to raise awareness of an ecosystem that is being destabilized by our actions

That vast expanse of water, the all-encompassing, soothing blue that calms our worries, the rush of everyday life, and anxiety about the future, needs our support more than ever. We are reminded of this on World Oceans Day.

It was at the Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit in 1992 that world leaders first recognized the need for a designated day of awareness of ocean’s role in our planet and our daily life. It was not until 2008 that the UN declared June 8 to be World Oceans Day, to be celebrated officially from that year on. Since then, events have been structured around a theme each year, in order to create awareness of how imperative it is for the world's population to protect and sustainably manage them

We enjoy the ocean’s water in all areas: life, leisure, sport, transportation, economy, and biodiversity. 70% of the planet is covered by the oceans and they produce at least 50% of the Earth's oxygen. They are our lungs. The oceans are key to the reabsorption of carbon dioxide and the stability of climates and seasons. They provide us with a large percentage of the protein we consume and are ultimately the driving force of life on our planet.

However, due to climate change, plastic pollution, and other consequences of human activity, our oceans continue to be threatened and their ecosystem is destabilized. Ocean currents are being altered and this can cause a domino effect of negative consequences for the planet.

At Orca, we defend the oceans, which we consider our home. We believe that the health of humanity and our oceans go hand in hand. We believe that we are responsible for its protection and that it is our duty to safeguard it for future generations.

That is why we are committed to minimizing our impact as much as possible and ensuring the highest standard of sustainability. Of the many battles we have left to fight, we have focused our range of action on one mission: that of eliminating plastics from the oceans. This commitment extends to our entire supply chain.

At Orca and through sports, the healing and meditative powers of the ocean are made more accessible. Whether you surf, swim or dive, the ocean gives you a unique opportunity to feel one with nature. It is a treasure that must be protected; it is our home.

How to measure yourself

For best results, take your measurements with no clothing on

Place the measuring tape over the widest part of your chest.

Hold one end of the measuring tape in place and circle your chest, keeping the tape straight, until the tape reaches your starting point.

Get a book, a hand mirror and a pencil.

Take off your shoes and anything you wear on your head.

Look for a level surface to stand on with a smooth wall behind you.

Stand in front of the wall with your feet together.

Balance the book on your head and press it against the wall. Use the mirror to check that it is in a horizontal position and well centered. Mark the position of the top of your head on the wall with pencil.

Once the mark is made, step away and use a measuring tape to measure the distance from the ground to the mark you just made with pencil.

Step on the scale, without clothes or accessories, and write down your weight.
