Have you heard of our Apex Swimskin?

Discover how a swimskin can improve your efficiency when competing without a wetsuit and what the Orca Apex Swimskin does differently.

Some days, your wetsuit stays at home. It may be that the water’s too warm, or the rules don’t allow one to be used, and suddenly swimming goes back to depending purely on technique, efficiency and your ability to glide with as little effort as possible - or not.

What do you know about swimskins?

At a simple glance, a swimskin may seem like an extra layer rather than a trisuit, but its purpose goes beyond that. It’s designed to act as a second skin while you swim, reducing the drag created by the suit’s fabric itself, allowing you to glide a little further with each stroke. The difference may seem minimal, but in a sport where the minor details are so important, every second counts.

The Apex Swimskin was born from this philosophy. It doesn’t seek to replace wetsuits or mimic their behaviour. When buoyancy disappears from the equation, efficiency takes its place. Every panel, seam and fabric are designed to create the least possible water resistance so that all you have to do is focus on your swimming.

However, speed on its own has never been enough. A swimskin that’s too rigid can restrict your stroke, affecting your technique and reducing the benefits of its hydrodynamic properties. This is why the Apex Swimskin combines a compressive fit with a level of elasticity that allows natural movement in your shoulders while swimming. The suit flows with your movements instead of limiting them, which is especially important when you’re swimming longer distances and begin to feel tired.

When you enter the water, it feels like your swimskin almost disappears entirely. The fabric fits snugly, preventing water pockets from forming and remains completely skin tight in order to keep a clean and efficient profile from start to transition.

As usual when it comes to competition material, there is no one characteristic that makes a difference on its own. Performance improves when all the elements work together: a water-repellent fabric, a balanced level of compression, a patterning that increases freedom of movement and a fit capable of adapting to your body without distracting you from what’s most important.

Our Swimskin has been developed in response to triathletes’ requests, so when it all comes back down to the essentials - technique, rhythm and efficiency - the solution is balance. In other words, a good swimskin doesn’t change the way you swim. It simply makes it easier for you to make the most of everything you’re already capable of.

How to measure yourself

For best results, take your measurements with no clothing on

Place the measuring tape over the widest part of your chest.

Hold one end of the measuring tape in place and circle your chest, keeping the tape straight, until the tape reaches your starting point.

Get a book, a hand mirror and a pencil.

Take off your shoes and anything you wear on your head.

Look for a level surface to stand on with a smooth wall behind you.

Stand in front of the wall with your feet together.

Balance the book on your head and press it against the wall. Use the mirror to check that it is in a horizontal position and well centered. Mark the position of the top of your head on the wall with pencil.

Once the mark is made, step away and use a measuring tape to measure the distance from the ground to the mark you just made with pencil.

Step on the scale, without clothes or accessories, and write down your weight.
