One of the benefits of outdoor activities is the ability to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. In pursuit of this, many people take walks, hike, jog, or cycle, but others have rediscovered swimming as a terrific source of both physical and mental benefits.
In recent years, open water swimming, not competitively but for recreation, has grown in popularity by up to 90% in countries like the United Kingdom, where it is referred to as wild swimming. The sport's main features are that it is practiced in rivers, lakes, and the sea, individually or in groups, and without rules or supervision.
The first and greatest benefit of this type of swimming is an improvement in overall mood. Swimming in open water, which is usually cold, activates your entire nervous system and your body adapts in ways that improve your general physical well-being. The challenge in itself of facing cold temperatures and overcoming them produces a feeling of relief and is so reinvigorating that some swimmers consider this effect addictive.
Wild swimming knows no gender or age. The sport allows us to embrace our uniqueness and pushes us to rediscover ourselves, to pay attention to our surroundings, to enjoy what nature has to offer, and to find a state of calm, gaining a new perspective on everyday concerns. To quote Roger Deakin in his book Waterlog, “When you enter the water, something like metamorphosis happens. Leaving behind the land, you go through the looking-glass surface and enter a new world.”
Although it is not necessary to use any specific equipment, depending on the water temperature or the duration of your excursion, a wetsuit may be advisable. Knowing that the end goal is not performance alone, but rather enjoyment of our natural environment, Orca has designed a wetsuit that meets these needs and supports this purpose with a pattern designed for comfort and a very elastic suit that adapts to all body types.
This is why the suit's special paneling favors buoyancy during breaststroke swimming, since it is a wetsuit designed for people who want to go out and explore their environment, dive in to the adventure of open water swimming, and discover all the benefits that it can bring.
If this resonates with you, remember that although the Vitalist Breast Stroke has visibility features in the form of orange details on the extremities, we also recommend using other visibility aids such as a swimming buoy or high-visibility hats. These added safety measures will allow you to focus more on discovering what you are truly capable of.
