Txomin Dachary and the Zeal Thermal

Txomin prepares for his latest challenge with all the gear he needs to spend hour upon hour in the freezing cold water.

Some people don’t let their goals define them, but rather the way in which they go about achieving them. Txomin Dachary is one of these people. A swimmer since he was a child, lifeguard, volunteer firefighter and sea lover, he has silently carved out an identity based on consistency, discipline and an intimate relationship with the water.

Behind the hours spent and miles swum, Txomin is driven by a personal quest: to discover how far he can push his body when his mind is in a state of calm, and what happens when he is unapologetically exposed to the elements. He finds a space for expression in the water, where effort is honest and he feels a connection with something larger than himself.

This documentary shares a way of being in the world, from the preparation, equipment and responsibility involved, to respect for the environment and the motivation that takes over when a challenge is meaningful.

Swimming in cold water isn’t just a matter of resistance, equipment isn’t dispensable and preparation turns into a ritual. The Zeal Thermal wetsuit is what allows you to spend long hours in the water without undermining your technique or confidence. Designed to provide the best thermal insulation in our range, the suit combines Thermal X2 inner lining, which retains body heat, with batwing technology, including a second layer in the neck area, and a functional zip that prevents cold water from entering the suit. The thick panels offer a high level of buoyancy without limiting your flexibility, thanks to the use of Yamamoto 40+ technology, which provides maximum elasticity and gives you total freedom of movement in cold water. Besides the wetsuit, accessories including a neoprene hood, gloves and neoprene socks are invaluable allies when the water reaches very low temperatures, allowing you to enjoy longer sessions in the water while protecting the parts of your body most vulnerable to the cold.

How to measure yourself

For best results, take your measurements with no clothing on

Place the measuring tape over the widest part of your chest.

Hold one end of the measuring tape in place and circle your chest, keeping the tape straight, until the tape reaches your starting point.

Get a book, a hand mirror and a pencil.

Take off your shoes and anything you wear on your head.

Look for a level surface to stand on with a smooth wall behind you.

Stand in front of the wall with your feet together.

Balance the book on your head and press it against the wall. Use the mirror to check that it is in a horizontal position and well centered. Mark the position of the top of your head on the wall with pencil.

Once the mark is made, step away and use a measuring tape to measure the distance from the ground to the mark you just made with pencil.

Step on the scale, without clothes or accessories, and write down your weight.
