There were a number of victories around the world for Orca athletes this past weekend, with Sebastian Kienle showing his World Champion form at Ironman 70.3 Kraichgau, Toumy Degham taking out Triathlon Deauville and Orca ambassador Ashley Johnson winning her age group at Escape from Alcatraz!
Sebastian Kienle showed his form from the start at Kraichgau with a fast swim for him in a time of 24:27 in his RS1 Swimskin. This equated to 5th out of the water for Sebi which is a great result for him and put him in great stead for his strength – the bike. Armed with his brand new custom RS1 Aero Race Suit, Sebi started to put some serious pressure on the field on the bike, dominating from early on and hammering it with an eventual 2:08:45 bike time. This gave him a few minutes up his sleeve for the run, where he finished comfortably with a time of 1:15:26 – 6 minutes ahead of his competition. This result is a great lead up to the European Champs at Ironman Frankfurt in a few weeks time for Sebi!
In France, Orca athlete Toumy Degham conquered his demons at the Deauville Triathlon after a puncture in 2013, and being unable to compete in 2014 to take home a win in 2015! Racing the whole way with fellow athlete Anthony Pannier, Toumy was finally able to shake him with 4km to go on the run to celebrate his victory.
In the 35th anniversary of the iconic Escape from Alcatraz, Ashley Johnson swam an incredible 4 minutes faster in her Predator wetsuit than in 2014 (and managed to stay warm!), which set her up for a great day, winning her F30-34 agegroup. In the male pros, NZ Orca athlete Graham O’Grady also had a good swim, eventually ending up 6th overall which is a great result for him!
In Spain, Xterra athlete Roger Serrano continued his run of success with a 3rd place at Xterra Extremadura.
