Highlight On: Portsea Swim Classic

One of Australia's premier openwater swims in the pristine waters of Point Nepean National Park, the Portsea Swim Classic will celebrate it's 30 year anniversary this year. One to add to the bucketlist for sure!

One of the longest standing openwater events around, the Portsea Swim Classic will celebrate it's 30th Anniversary this coming Saturday in the pristine waters of Point Nepean National Park, Portsea. Known as one of Australia's premier openwater swim events that benefits the Portsea Surf Lifesaving Club, you can see why this event has been around for 30 years.

Commencing with a beach start from Fisherman’s beach, the main event the Portsea Swim Classic consists of a 1.5km swim that is carefully timed to ensure it will be aided by the outgoing tide. Swimmers will have the benefit of the outgoing tide the whole way, with no hard slog back into the tide. This main event is restricted to 1800 competitors to ensure safety and a hassle free swim for all. For this 30th anniversary edition a 2.5km Portsea Swim Classic Gold race has been added which is restricted to 200 swimmers. This really can be a fun event for the whole family with the Nipper division swim being a great option for kids. With the new Kid's Squad Openwater wetsuit now available in Australia this would be a great option for the swim!

Orca has been a sponsor of the Portsea Swim Classic for the past 11 years and will be there again this Saturday with Orca wetsuits available to hire. We hope to see you out there, we recommend you check out the course yourself at bestplacestoswim.com here: http://bit.ly/1HLiqNK and go for a swim next time you're in the area!

How to measure yourself

For best results, take your measurements with no clothing on

Place the measuring tape over the widest part of your chest.

Hold one end of the measuring tape in place and circle your chest, keeping the tape straight, until the tape reaches your starting point.

Get a book, a hand mirror and a pencil.

Take off your shoes and anything you wear on your head.

Look for a level surface to stand on with a smooth wall behind you.

Stand in front of the wall with your feet together.

Balance the book on your head and press it against the wall. Use the mirror to check that it is in a horizontal position and well centered. Mark the position of the top of your head on the wall with pencil.

Once the mark is made, step away and use a measuring tape to measure the distance from the ground to the mark you just made with pencil.

Step on the scale, without clothes or accessories, and write down your weight.
