Duffle bag

What do you think about the project that our friend Christopher Stone sent us to participate in the #OrcaUpcyclingAward upcycling an old wetsuit into a Duffle Bag?

An old wetsuit, a sewing machine and a little bit of creativity...

It doesn't take much more to upcycle our old sports gear and create an object that we can use in our daily lives.

What do you think about the project that our friend Christopher Stone sent us to participate in the #OrcaUpcyclingAward upcycling an old wetsuit into a Duffle Bag?

Step 1.

To start with this project, we will start by taking a look at our old wetsuit to check the panels that are preserved in a better condition. It is also interesting to check which parts of the wetsuit will fit better in the final project, for this purpose zips, logos, or panels with graphics are especially interesting.

Step 2.

To create the Duffle Bag, we will need to cut out several neoprene panels, so that later we can join them together to create a rectangular piece. Therefore, with the help of a pencil and a pair of scissors, we will mark the panels and later carefully cut them out.

On the other hand, we will also need to cut out 2 round panels that we will use on the corners of the backpack, and the zip of the neoprene, which we will be able to reuse in the project.

Step 3.

Once all the panels have been cut out, they must be joined using a sewing machine. The neoprene may seem complicated to sew, but with a little patience it can be done.

First of all, you will need to fasten the zip at the end of the rectangular pattern. Then, sew a strap over that same rectangular panel in order to hang the backpack on your shoulder.

Finally, turn the bag over and sew the circular ends on the rectangular pattern, this way, when the backpack is turned over again, the seams will be perfectly hidden inside.

Step 4.

Finally, turn the Duffle Bag over and go through the seams to make sure they are all properly assembled. If this is the case, you will have finished the project and will be able to use your upcycled Duffle Bag in your daily life.

How to measure yourself

For best results, take your measurements with no clothing on

Place the measuring tape over the widest part of your chest.

Hold one end of the measuring tape in place and circle your chest, keeping the tape straight, until the tape reaches your starting point.

Get a book, a hand mirror and a pencil.

Take off your shoes and anything you wear on your head.

Look for a level surface to stand on with a smooth wall behind you.

Stand in front of the wall with your feet together.

Balance the book on your head and press it against the wall. Use the mirror to check that it is in a horizontal position and well centered. Mark the position of the top of your head on the wall with pencil.

Once the mark is made, step away and use a measuring tape to measure the distance from the ground to the mark you just made with pencil.

Step on the scale, without clothes or accessories, and write down your weight.
